Activities & Groups

This section provides information on our current two operational (OGs) and six Special Interest Groups (SIGs), and related collaborative arrangements. Since 2014, the Collaboration has established a number of subgroups to provide expert advice, support its strategic aspirations, while enabling professional development and experiential exchange within various regional professional communities of practice. All subgroups are assigned a Steering Group Sponsor, to provide further support, insight and communication.

Operational Groups

As agreed at the Board (DB 20/11(d), p5), from mid-2020, the Conference and Staff Development groups have been recognised as ‘operational’ rather than ‘special interest’ subgroups of the Collaboration. This is to reflect their special focus in delivering on a tangible value membership outputs through their respective programme of events. Hence, while experiential sharing at their group gatherings is acknowledged, it is not their primary operational goal.

New Groups

As of late-2020, the newest approved SIGs are the Marketing & Communications (MarCommsG) and the Mercian Metadata (MMG) Groups, with the Deputies & Senior Staff Group (D&SSG) under formation. Further groups, either ongoing or finite task & finish, to meet particular partner needs are frequently discussed by the Directors Board but may also arise from discussions by staff within membership organisations. Any potential new SIG are required to undergo informal discussion and exploration by the Steering Group before making a formal proposal to the Directors Board, and are subject to alignment with the Collaboration's strategic aims and operational capacity.

To discuss potential groups and the formal proposal process, contact the Development Officer.
