Mercian Copyright Group

The Mercian Copyright Group (MCG) is a network of library staff with a responsibility for Copyright guidance and advocacy at their institutions. Copyright and related issues, are complex even for the specialists in the field, and being able to share knowledge and develop best practice is a crucial part of supporting teaching and research active colleagues, and especially in developing fields. Previously known as the Midlands Copyright Group, the group was adopted in Nov 2017 by the Mercian Collaboration as one of their special interest groups, for an initial trial period of a year. Following a successful conclusion of this trial period, the group is now one of our established SIGs.

The Group has transitioned into a formal Group , supported by the Collaboration, and continues to expand activity and increase engagement across all Mercian member organisations. It also aims to act as a regional community of best practice, sharing effective techniques and methods, and offering new opportunities to work collectively across the ‘Midlands Engine’ and Mercian membership region. The Committee reports and is responsible to the Mercian Directors, via the Mercian Collaboration's Steering Group and Group Sponsor (Chris Porter).

This subgroup is currently under Steering Group Review (Nov '21).

For more information on this as well as other activities, membership, and future events, please contact the Group's Committee members or the Mercian Development Officer.
