All the Same But Different: Northampton
Another exciting opportunity to visit a Mercian Collaboration library service
Venue: Park Campus Library, University of Northampton, Boughton Green Rd, Northampton, NN2 7AL. Car parking spaces are available but will need to be booked – instructions are provided at the time of booking.
Join us for a visit to Park Campus Library at the University of Northampton and see how we have been preparing for our move to a new campus in 2018. We will start with a tour of our current spaces and you will have a chance to see the plans/model of the Learning Commons building at our new Waterside Campus. Following a break for refreshments there will be a presentation on the Learning Commons ethos by Chris Powis which look at how we will be operating in a shared space at the new campus.
This will be followed by the opportunity for a small group breakout where you will be able to find out more about one specific areas of operation here at Northampton in more detail and find out what changes we have had to make to prepare us for the future.
We host many group events and visits under our community engagement agenda. Staff take part in a range of community engagement activities both inside and outside the university and we actively support work experience opportunities for young people in local schools. Find out more about the exciting things staff here can be involved in and see if there are ideas you could take back to your institutions. We are keen for you to share what you do too, so bring examples.
The University is reducing the number of traditional lectures, in favour of more interactive and personalised learning, both face-to-face and using digital technologies. Find out how our Learning Technologists and Designers, Academic Support Tutors and Academic Librarians have adapted to the changes and challenges that has provided us with.
In the last 18 months we have had a new Library Management System and RFID installed in an effort to be as close to 100% self-service as possible in preparation for out 24/7 365 service at Waterside. Many of our processes have had to change and whilst we are keen to share what we are doing we would love to hear what you do that is a bit different to the norm – bring your best service tips.
We have an ever increasing number of partners that we have to work with and this provides us with challenges in licensing and access. We have an ‘e’ first policy for purchases and are now buying more ‘e’ than paper texts, this has an effect on our old models of purchasing and workflows. We would be keen to share our experience and find out what you do in the face of change in these areas.
